The Gathering

A five-day immersive experience in Tulum following Transform Trauma Mexico

Extend the experience

Set against the raw beauty of Papaya Playa Project, The Gathering is an intimate post-conference experience designed for those seeking not only insight but integration.

Designed as a continuation of Transform Trauma Mexico, this immersive residential gathering offers the opportunity to slow down, stay longer and deepen the experience in community with others.

Bringing together faculty, contributors and attendees in a more shared environment, the experience creates space for conversation, reflection and connection beyond the pace and structure of the conference itself.

Within a region long connected to nature, ceremony and collective ways of gathering, the experience invites a different relationship with both the work and one another.

From insight into embodiment

The conference opens the door.
The Gathering invites you to walk through it.

Following the scale and intensity of Transform Trauma Mexico, The Gathering offers a rare opportunity to stay in the conversation rather than return immediately to the pace of everyday life. Over five immersive days, participants are invited into a more intimate environment designed for reflection, integration, restoration and deeper exploration of the ideas that resonated most during the conference.

While the conference is built around breadth, The Gathering is centred on depth. A select group of faculty will lead intimate deep-dive sessions, creating space for richer dialogue, clinical exploration and meaningful exchange. This is an opportunity to spend extended time with the thinkers, clinicians and innovators whose work challenged, inspired or expanded the way you see trauma healing and practice.

Alongside these sessions, the experience includes embodied practices, movement, nature, music and shared reflection. Learning here unfolds not only through formal sessions, but through shared meals, spontaneous conversations, moments of reflection and meaningful time spent alongside faculty and peers. The Gathering creates the conditions for knowledge to deepen into understanding, and understanding to become embodied.

The setting

Papaya Playa Project & Habitas sit on nearly a kilometre of unbroken white-sand beach on Tulum’s southern edge, a thatched-roof, candlelit village of casitas, cabanas and safari tents, open-fire kitchens, a cliffside pool and a sand-floor bar held between dense jungle and the open sea.

Born as the original Tulum beach-club-meets-retreat, Papaya Playa has a near-mythic reputation among those who know it; hand-built, off-grid in feel and intentionally connected to its surroundings. There is no glass tower, no marble lobby and no sense of separation from the landscape. Instead, there are palm-thatched roofs, sandy pathways, flickering candlelight and the constant presence of ocean and jungle.

The setting is not simply where The Gathering takes place. It helps create the conditions that make it possible.

Deep dives require something different from a conference environment. They require time. Space. The freedom to linger with a question, follow a conversation further, or sit with an idea before rushing to the next session. Removed from the pace and distractions of everyday life, participants have the opportunity to engage more fully with both the content and one another.

Here, conversations continue long after the formal programme ends. Questions unfold over shared meals. Insights sparked during a faculty session find further exploration on a walk along the beach or in discussion beneath the palms. The boundaries between learning, reflection and connection become more fluid.

Surrounded by nature and held within a slower rhythm, participants are given the rare opportunity to move beyond consuming information and towards something more meaningful: understanding, application and integration.
